Learning to Follow Jesus
Attribute 1: Learn to be with Jesus
Step 4: Learn to be with Christ in prayer
Scripture Memory: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” –Matthew 11:28
Bible Scripture: John 15:7; Matthew 7:7-12; James 4:2-3
Prayer:
1) Talk with God like you would to a good friend
2) Thank God for what he is doing in your life right now
3) If something about this lesson stood out to you talk with him about it
4) Ask God in your own words for the things that are on your mind and then tell him that you will trust him.
Challenge for this week:
Spend time with Jesus in prayer and reading.

11-21-10: Learning to Follow Jesus - Attribute 1.3: Learn to be with him as you read scripture
Learning to Follow Jesus
Attribute 1: Learn to be with Jesus
Step 3: Learn to be with him as you read scripture
Scripture Memory: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” –Matthew 11:28
Bible Scripture: John 15:7; John 1:1-18; Hebrews 4:12; Luke 24:44
Guidelines for reading:
1) Set a regular time and a place - It should be a quiet and a private place. Jesus said in Matthew 6:6: “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.”
2) Make notes of what you notice and what you think God may be speaking to you as read. Underline or journal what stood out to you.
3) Pray and respond what you read. Maybe something stood out to you. Act upon what you read. Don’t just read it but do it.
4) Remember your focus is on Jesus and not the habit of reading the bible.
